The months spent in Zaba at the gateway to the Sahel allowed the photographer to convey in images the values of these people so far from any civilization.
These villagers are fighting to keep their customs alive, including initiation rituals that mutilate the bodies of little girls forever. The photographer wanted to delve into the secrets of traditions to understand before judging. He closely followed the journey of a young princess who refuses to see her sisters sacrificed in turn.
Dominique Voinçon lived in the village for a very long time. He wrote a text full of respect but which unequivocally condemns these useless sacrifices.
